Ensuring Treatment Effectiveness and Eye Safety
Ortho-K is a non-surgical myopia treatment method FDA-approved since 2002, using rigid gas permeable contact lenses worn overnight to reshape the cornea. To achieve optimal results and ensure safety, proper lens care is extremely important.
Ortho-K Lens Hygiene Procedure:
Before wearing lenses (nighttime):
1. Wash hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap
2. Distinguish correct lenses for right eye and left eye
3. Inspect lenses soaked in disinfecting and storage solution for minimum 6 hours
4. Rinse lenses with rinsing solution before inserting into eye
5. Put 1 drop of artificial tears in eye before wearing lens
When removing lenses (daytime):
1. Clean hands thoroughly before handling
2. Instill artificial tears, close eyes briefly for even distribution
3. Use specialized removal tool to gently remove lenses
4. Immediately soak lenses in Ortho-K lens disinfecting and storage solution
Regular Maintenance Schedule:
· Follow up as instructed by your eye doctor
· Every 3 months to evaluate treatment effectiveness, eye health, corneal mapping, and check condition of the lenses at the clinic
Important Notes:
· Wear lenses 7-8 hours nightly for optimal results
· Do not use tap water to clean or store lenses due to bacteria that can cause serious infections
· Replace lenses every 12-18 months or as directed by doctor
Signs Requiring Immediate Examination:
· Red, swollen, painful eyes
· Abnormal tearing
· Sudden vision decrease
· Persistent discomfort
