How Does Dry Eye Syndrome Happen?

Dry eye is a common condition that occurs when the eye doesn't make enough tears or makes poor-quality tears.

Tears can be inadequate and unstable for many reasons:

• Normal aging or after menopause
• Certain health conditions can affect your ability to make tears like Sjogren’s syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, and collagen vascular diseases
• Environmental causes such as pollution or the weather
• Some chronic medications can cause dry eye
• Computer use
• Contact lens wear
