Eyes are “the window to the soul”, the most valuable asset of every person. In our busy lives, many of us forget to take care of our eyes. However, if you experience any of the following signs, your eyes need to be checked.
Your eyes can get infections from bacteria, viruses or fungi and can affect just one eye or both. However, it's also very dangerous. Frequent eye infections will lead to complications, including blindness.
Eye injuries
Eye injuries can cause vision loss or blindness. That's why having an ophthalmologist or other medical doctor examine the eye as soon as possible is important, even if the injury seems minor at first. DO NOT attempt to treat a serious eye injury yourself.
A change in vision, or sudden blurriness, could be a sign that you need treatment. It could be cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, retinopathy, or systemic disease. You should schedule a vision test and a more detailed eye exam.
New floaters or flashes in your vision could signal a serious problem such as a retinal detachment.
Double vision can be a serious sign of eye diseases. Sometimes it warns of systemic brain conditions or nerve injury.
Sudden loss of vision
Sudden loss of vision should be checked right away because it’s very dangerous. Even if your vision darkens for a few seconds and then comes back, you need to go to the emergency room or make an urgent appointment with your ophthalmologist. This may be a symptom of a potentially blinding eye condition.
Eye diseases are very diverse but the manifestations are relatively mild in the early stages, so few patients realize these signs. Therefore, routine eye examination is an important process to detect eye abnormalities early.
