The early stages of diabetic retinopathy can occur without any symptoms and are usually painless. Diabetic retinopathy may develop over of years, and the earliest signs of the disease are only visible from having a retinopathy screening check.
The typical symptoms of diabetic retinopathy include:
- Sudden changes in vision
- Blurred vision
- Eye floaters and spots
- Double vision
- Eye pain
- Distorted vision
- Reduction in night vision
Complications of retinopathy in later stages can cause blindness and retinal detachment. So if you are experiencing any of these eye symptoms, see your ophthalmologist right away to get them checked out. Seek advice from your ophthalmologist as soon as possible.
