Types of Lenses for Cataract Surgery

Monofocal lenses

Monofocal lenses are designed to provide the best vision at one distance. Many people who choose monofocals choose to not wear glasses for distance vision, and use reading glasses for near-vision tasks.

Multifocal IOLs

Multifocal IOLs have corrective zones built into the lens, much like progressive eyeglasses. This allows you to see both near and far objects. This IOL reduces your dependence on wearing eye glasses.

Extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) IOLs

Extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) IOLs have only one corrective zone. But this zone is stretched to allow distance and intermediate vision. For reading small print, you will wear reading glasses.

Toric lenses

Toric lenses have extra built-in correction for astigmatism. This lens allows vision to focus at a distance and corrects astigmatism.

There will be many types of intraocular lens to use for the cataract surgery. But to select the right type that is appropriate for your eyes and needs, you should see your ophthalmologist for examination and advice.
